Returns & Refunds Policy

Last updated: 26.02.26

Online Returns (Distance Sales)

We accept returns within 28 days of delivery.

This return window includes the statutory right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Customers should notify us of their intent to return an order within 14 days of receiving their goods. Customers then have a further 14 days to return the goods. This forms part of the overall 28‑day return period.

To return an item, please complete our Online Returns Form and include it with your item(s).

Returned items must be:

  • Unused
  • In their original condition
  • With all original packaging and labels attached

You must include your Foothills order number and clear instructions regarding whether you require a refund or exchange.

Exchanges (Online Orders)

If you would prefer an exchange (for example, a different size or colour), please indicate this clearly when returning your item.

Exchanges are subject to stock availability.

If the requested replacement is unavailable, we will issue a refund instead.

If the replacement item is of higher value, you will be required to pay the difference before dispatch. If it is of lower value, we will refund the difference.

Return Postage (Online Orders)

Unless the goods are faulty or incorrect, return postage costs are the responsibility of the customer.

Returned goods remain the responsibility of the customer until they are safely received by us. We strongly recommend using a reliable tracked or signed-for service and retaining proof of postage, as we cannot be responsible for items lost or damaged in transit.

Due to previous delivery issues, we do not recommend using Evri for returns. We cannot accept responsibility for lost or delayed items.

Proof of postage does not constitute proof of delivery.

Refunds (Online Orders – Non-Faulty Goods)

Once we receive your returned goods, we will process your refund within 14 days.

Refunds will be issued using the original payment method.

We will refund:

  • The cost of the goods
  • The standard delivery charge (if the entire order is cancelled)

We are not required to refund any premium delivery upgrades selected at checkout.

We may make a deduction from your refund if the goods show signs of use beyond what is necessary to inspect them.

In-Store Returns

For items purchased in-store, we offer refunds, exchanges or credit notes within 21 days of purchase, provided that:

  • The item is unused
  • It is returned in its original condition
  • You provide proof of purchase

This 21-day returns period forms part of our customer service commitment, including our boot fit guarantee.

Refunds will be issued using the original payment method where possible.

After 21 days, refunds or exchanges are offered only if the goods are faulty or not as described, in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

This policy does not affect your statutory rights.

Faulty Goods

Your rights regarding faulty goods are protected under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

If goods are faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose:

  • Please contact us as soon as possible.

You are entitled to a full refund within the first 30 days of delivery if the item is faulty.
  • After 30 days, we will offer a repair or replacement in accordance with your statutory rights.

Where appropriate and reasonable, faulty goods may be repaired rather than replaced. If repair is not possible or cannot be completed within a reasonable time, we will provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with your statutory rights.

If an item is confirmed as faulty.

  • We will provide a free return postage label, or
  • Refund your reasonable return postage costs.

Some items may need to be returned for inspection or testing before a fault is confirmed.

Excluded Items

For hygiene reasons, we do not accept returns of underwear unless faulty.

This does not affect your statutory rights.

Condition of Returned Items

For health and safety reasons, all clothing and footwear returned must be clean.

The Health and Safety at Work Act prohibits us from asking staff to handle soiled items. We reserve the right to refuse returns that are not returned in a hygienic condition.

Product Description

Pioneer, activist, environmentalist, poet. Ethel Haythornthwaite is virtually unknown, even in her hometown of Sheffield - the UK's outdoor city - yet her tireless campaigning led to the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 and the creation of the Peak District National Park, protecting a wild and varied landscape so many have fallen in love with. Founder of a local society to protect rural scenery in 1924, she went on to join the Council for the Preservation of Rural England (CPRE) and become its wartime director. Saviour of the beautiful Longshaw estate, her achievements also include establishing the first green belt in the UK.

In Ethel, award-winning author Helen Mort explores the life of this countryside revolutionary who has been overlooked by history. Born into wealth yet frugal, ever restless but infinitely patient, widowed at twenty-two, independent and thoroughly ahead of her time, Ethel Haythornthwaite helped save the British countryside at a time when simply to be a woman was challenge enough.

Having been given unrestricted access to Ethel's archive, including hundreds of meticulously written letters, in Ethel, Helen Mort has written letters to Ethel's memory and a paean to her legacy. The beauty and accessibility of the British countryside is the result of passionate campaigning during the inter- and post-war years by groundbreaking figures such as Ethel Haythornthwaite.
